Body Language
How to tell if someone is lying to you
I will be writing a lot of articles about body language, because it has always fascinated me. I realised at a very young age how to tell what people are thinking by the way they move! I am 58 now and nobody has ever been able to lie to me.
Body language is now researched extensively and is an accepted way to tell what people are really thinking or feeling even to the point that the individual cannot control their actions to hide what they truly feel. I will begin with real basic stuff, such as how to tell if someone is deluding you.
If someone is talking to you and they lean towards you they are interested in what you are talking to them about, if they sit back, then they are not. If they cross their arms and legs then not only are they not interested in you, but they are getting defensive and do not agree with what you are saying.
If you are confronting someone with a lie, they will touch the back of their neck. If when you ask them if they did something or not, and they frown and say “no” then their lying. If they raise their eyebrows with a look of indignation and say “no” then they are telling the truth.
Listen to the way someone is talking to you, note if they are talking faster than normal or if they are licking their lips or clearing their throat, as all these signs means they are lying to you. If someone is telling a lie and they refuse to look at you in the eye and move their eyes around the room then that’s your sign that they are. If they are determined you are to believe them they could well stare you in the eyes with an aggressive look. Fiddling with the hands, scratching the head or covering the mouth, are also tell tale signs.
The old saying “Actions speak louder than words” is very true if it is referring to body language, most of us unconsciously display our true feelings by the way we act, giving away information without knowing it.
Do you communicate well with friends and family? Any problems could be due to body language – gestures people make through the day can affect the relationships around them.
If someone touches their hair whilst talking to you it means they like you very much.
If a person puts their hands behind their head and sits back, they think they are superior to you.
If hands are placed on top of the head it means they have given up or surrender to you.
Resting their face in their hands is a sign they are bored.
Sitting face to face with each other is a full on conversation, maybe leading to confrontation, so if you want to be assertive make sure you take this position.
If you want them to co-operate sit side by side with them facing to your left.
Most people know that their pupils dilate and become larger when the light is poor, what is less well known is that exactly the same thing happens when a person experiences pleasure. Similarly the pupils contract when faced with anything unpleasant.
If you meet someone you are attracted to, the chances are your pupils will give you away. Equally, by taking notice of their pupils you can tell if your feelings are reciprocated.
Part of the reason everyone loves babies is because their pupils are large, as they have not learned emotions yet, which means they cannot lie to you, which in turn makes you feel safe, although you are not conscience of this.
A mother’s pupils dilate when she looks at her child, even a woman who does not have children will react in the same way. In men this reaction is only noticed when they have become a Father themselves.
Anyone putting their head in their hands and then leaning forwards, means they are in great despair. Try to help them as soon as possible.
If you are standing talking to someone and they turn either foot sideways, it means they are trying to get away from you!
